Zambia U17 coach George Chilfuya has described his sides’ 2-0 victory over hosts Lesotho on Wednesday in their opening 2021 COSAFA U17 CUP Group A match as a promising sign .
Striker Joseph Sabobo scored a brace to send Zambia top of Group B on in Maseru where the COSAFA U17 Cup is being played under the umbrella of the 2021 Region 5 Youth Games.
“It is always nice to win your first game because it gives you confidence going into your next game,” Chilufya said.
But Chilufya said the only concern was that they could only score two goals in a match they dominated offensively.
“Out of the chances we had, we scored two goals, not a very good percentage, and it gives us something to work on in training most especially on the final third,” Chilufya said.
“We also had a bit of a challenge with the turf but our fitness levels looked good and we stuck to our game plan.”
Sabobo struck in the 29th and 71st minutes to send Zambia top of the three team Group B on 3 points.
Zambia plays Eswatini on December 4 in their final Group A match and the latter’s first match of the tournament.
Victory this Saturday will see 2020 runners-up Zambia through to the semifinals that will be played on December 7.
The tournament was reduced to six teams following Zimbabwe and Seychelles withdrawal due to Covid-19 reasons.
