Namibia head coach Collin Benjamin is looking to give the youth a chance after announcing his provisional 31-man squad for the 2022 COSAFA Cup.

Benjamin has recalled just 12 players that made the squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Burundi on June 4, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

The Brave Warriors have a more youthful look about them for the Southern African competition taking place in Durban, South Africa from 5-17 July.

Benjamin also welcomed the decision from COSAFA to expand the squad sizes from 20 to 23 in light of the ongoing pandemic.

“Any player that is good enough, is old enough to represent the senior team. We are assessing and working closely with the new editions but I am confident in saying they have great potential and have shown massive commitment since the get-go,” he said.

“COVID times are tough and have proven to take a great toll on teams, and on top of that are other cases like loss of form and injuries. This came without a doubt as a grand boost and we applaud the organizing team.”

Namibia are set to face Madagascar in the quarter-finals on July 12 as they bid to reach the semi-finals for the first time since 2015 when they went on to win the COSAFA Cup.
