Al Ahly striker Wessam Abou Ali continued his prolific scoring form on Sunday evening when he netted a hat-trick in a 4-0 win over Arab Contractors in the Egyptian Premier League.
The Palestinian attacker’s first hat-trick of the season took his tally to 18 goals, extending his lead at the top of the scorers’ chart to four goals.
Abou Ali is the first player to score a hat-trick for Al Ahly in the league since Mohamed Sherif’s treble against Misr Lel Makasa in the 2020-21 season.
The 25-year-old has been exceptional since his move to Egypt in January to represent the Cairo giants, taking the league by storm with a one goal-per-game ratio.
Abou Ali has scored 10 goals in Al Ahly’s last seven matches in the league, including three goals in the critical encounters against title rivals Pyramids FC.
“Wessam has been fantastic for us but he still has a room to improve. He suffered in the beginning with some injuries but we prepared him physically and tactically to be in perfect shape,” Al Ahly coach Marcel Koller stated after Sunday’s victory.
Thanks to Abou Ali’s hat-trick and a late goal from Percy Tau, Al Ahly achieved a record-extending 19th win in a row in the league and they only need one point from the next four matches to secure the league title for the 44th time in the club’s history.
On the other hand, Pyramids secured a 2-1 win over ZED thanks to a late goal by Marawan Hamdy – at least briefly delaying the celebrations of the Red Eagles for a few days.
