The 2025 AFCON will be the 35th edition of the biennial continental tournament organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and will be held in Morocco from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026.


Qualifying for the tournament will take place in three ‘blocks’ in September (Matchday 1 & 2), October (Matchday 3 & 4) and November (Matchday 5 & 6) of 2024. The top two teams in each qualifying group will advance to the AFCON tournament.


Matchday 1 and 2 fixtures are taking place from Wednesday 4 September to Tuesday 10 September 2024.

22h58 – Full-Time: Ethiopia 0-2 DR Congo


Goals from Bongonda (62′) and Mayele (76′) earn the Leopards the win and they climb to the top of Group H standings, while Walia Ibex are placed third.


22h39 – Ethiopia 0-2 DR Congo: GOAL! Another substitute scores as Mayele beats Habtamu with a fantastic finish in the 76th minute.


22h25 – Ethiopia 0-1 DR Congo! GOAL! Two substitutes combine to hand the Leopards the lead as Kayembe’s long ball is turned home by Bongonda in the 62nd minute.


22h00 – Ethiopia 0-0 DR Congo: Kayembe, who scored against Guinea on Friday, has been introduced as the visitors look to break the deadlock with five minutes played in the second-half.

Ghana denied all three points after Niger scored a late equaliser to claim a share of the spoils in Berkane. Both teams are tied on one point after two matches in Group F.


19h41: Niger v Ghana – GOAL! An unlikely equaliser for the Menas as Oumar Sako scores with nine minutes left on the clock.


19h25: Niger v Ghana – Hainikoye again comes to the Menas’ rescue with another superb save to deny Williams.


19h10: Niger v Ghana – The Black Stars come close to doubling their lead, but Hainikoye pulls off a fine save to deny Kudus following good work from Inaki Williams to set him up inside the box.


18h05: Niger v Ghana – The second half is underway in Berkane, with Ghana looking good to claim their first points in Group F.

Otto Addo’s side are good value for their 1-0 lead at the break, having bossed possession in the first half and showing a greater desire to score at the Stade Municipal de Berkane.


18h45: Niger v Ghana – GOAL! The Black Stars make the breakthrough in the 44th minute with a cracking shot from Alidu Seidu.


18h33: Niger v Ghana – Still goalless at the half-hour mark, with Kudus’ header the only clear-cut chance thus far, although Niger have showed more attacking intent in the last 10 minutes.


18h06: Niger v Ghana – The visitors create an early chance as Abdul Fatawu whips in a cross that Mohammed Kudus meets, but his header is comfortably saved by Abiboulaye Hainikoye.

Done and dusted in Lilongwe, where Senegal have won 1-0 to move to the top of Group L. Burundi drop to second place, but the group standings will shift again on Tuesday 10 September when Burkina Faso face Malawi in Bamako.


16:50 – Burundi 0-1 Senegal. Less than five minutes of regulation time remaining in Lilongwe.


16:36 – Goal! Burundi 0-1 Senegal. Ismaila Sarr scores from the penalty spot to break the deadlock and give the Teranga Lions a precious lead in Lilongwe!


16:30 – Burundi 0-0 Senegal. Past the hour mark and we’ve seen several changes from both sides, with Senegal notably introducing Illman Ndiaye and Habib Diallo to try and spark their attack.


16:10 – Burundi 0-0 Senegal. Back underway in the second half. No changes from either team at the break.


15:53 – Half time. Burundi 0-0 Senegal.


Goalless at the break. The Teranga Lions have dominated possession, shots and corners… but they remain frustrated by the resilient Swallows. Mokono Eldinho and Formose Mendy have been booked for the hosts and visitors respectively.


15:36 – Burundi 0-0 Senegal. Past the half-hour mark and Senegal are still being held 0-0 by Burundi in Lilongwe. Remember that the West African heavyweights only managed a 1-1 draw at home to Burkina Faso last Friday.
