Al Ahly’s Mohamed Magdy Afsha has recalled how his life was changed by scoring the decisive goal against Zamalek in the ‘Final of the Century’.

On a historic Friday night, 27 November 2020, Al Ahly and Zamalek faced off in the first-ever all-Egyptian CAF Champions League final at Cairo Stadium.

With the match locked at 1-1 and approaching the final whistle, Afsha struck in the 86th minute to secure a 2-1 triumph for the Red Eagles.

Al Ahly fans still celebrate their precious victory over their arch-rivals every Friday, and they call Afsha the ‘King of KOs’ for his goal that secured their favorite title.

In an interview with Al Ahly’s official website, Afsha recalled the greatest night of his career and how it changed his life.

“My life completely changed after that goal. It is getting better with time. It is a victory that pushed us forward and set the foundation for this generation’s incredible success,” he explained.

“It is the best moment of my life. I scored many important goals when I was young but scoring a goal of such magnitude was beyond even my wildest dreams.

“It was a tough battle against our arch-rivals, and playing such a massive game behind closed doors during the COVID-19 pandemic made it even more challenging. I often imagine scoring that goal in front of a packed stadium with our fans celebrating.

“I have a special bond with the fans because of that goal. They often mention it when we meet, telling me it holds a special place in their memories.

“This goal motivates me every day, but I don’t want to be remembered only for that moment. I have already won over 15 titles with Al Ahly, and I aspire to achieve even greater success with the club.”

Since Afsha’s unforgettable goal, Al Ahly have asserted their dominance in African football, clinching four Champions League titles in the past five years and extending their record to an unprecedented 12 titles.
