Power Dynamos were crowned Zambia Super League champions on Saturday with one game of the season remaining after a 1-0 victory over Green Eagles at the Arthur Davis Stadium.
The Kitwe-based side secured the title at their home ground in dramatic fashion as Brian Masanyinga scored from the penalty spot in the ninth minute of stoppage time to hand his side their second league title in three seasons.
Fans broke onto the pitch following the final whistle to celebrate the victory and the addition of another league trophy to the club’s cabinet.
Dynamos have accumulated 67 points in 33 matches this season, winning 20 games, drawing seven and losing six. Their win at the weekend put them seven points clear of title challengers ZESCO United with one game of the league season remaining.
ZESCO needed Dynamos to draw or lose in order to have a chance of clinching the title on the final day, however, it was not to be as Dynamos snatched a late winner and ZESCO fell to 12th placed Mutondo Stars.
Dynamos will lift the MTN Super League trophy on Saturday 17 May after their final league clash of the season against Nchanga Rangers at Nchanga Stadium.
