Benin claimed a slender 1-0 win in the first leg of their second round 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying tie against Malawi on Sunday.
The match in Cotonou’s Stade de l’Amitie saw the ‘Squirrels’ secure victory thanks to a first-half goal from Stephane Sessegnon.
The West Bromwich Albion player has now scored four goals in the qualifiers, having netted three times over the two legs against Sao Tome and Principe in the previous round.
The result sees Benin in an advantageous positon to secure progression into the group phase, though they will face a testing second leg against the 'Flames' in Blantyre in early August.
The winner of the tie advances to Group B where they will compete with Mali, Algeria and Ethiopia.
