Ivory Coast came back from a goal down to register a 2-1 win over Sierra Leone in their 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan on Saturday night.

The Leone Stars led at half time courtesy of a goal from Kei Kamara but second-half strikes from Seydou Doumbia and Gervinho ensured that Herve Renard’s tenure with the Elephants started on a winning note.

The hosts were favourites going into this game and expectedly dominated the play but it was the visitors who broke the deadlock in the 44th minute when George Davies squared the ball for Kamara to finish with a simple tap.

The Elephants responded after the break and were eventually rewarded in the 63rd minute when Doumbia rose above his marker to head Serge Aurier’s cross into the back of the net.

Gervinho, who was a threat for the home side throughout the match, then completed the comeback five minutes later when he went on a solo run before firing home to secure a 2-1 win.

The result leaves Ivory Coast in second place with three points, behind leaders Cameroon, who defeated the Democratic Republic of Congo 2-0 in the other Group D encounter, while Sierra Leone will remain in third place with zero points.
