Ghana won their first home match in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers by beating Guinea 3-1 at the Tamale Sports Stadium on Wednesday.

The Black Stars have now opened a two-point lead ahead of next month’s double final qualifiers against Uganda and Togo.

Asamoah Gyan, once again, was the first to score when he connected home from close range after partner Jordan Ayew had set him up.

But the plaudits went to TP Mazembe star Solomon Asante who drilled in a defence-splitting pass for an unmarked Ayew inside the box.

From there, the Black Stars began to dictate the pace of the game and bombarded the area of the Syli Nationale but could not double their lead.

Guinea then broke away and won a free-kick from 20-yards. Captain Ibrahima Traore elected himself to take.

His effort was poor as it came off the wall but the ball dropped in front Mohammed Yattara who struck home from 12 yards for the leveller.

This turned on Guinea’s attacking style and began to hit and defend and that sent them into the break with the score line pegged at 1-1.

Ghana began the second half with high intensity and could have scored under two minutes but for misses from Gyan and Andre Ayew.

In the 57th minute, Gyan went on the break and shot at goal but his effort was blocked by Abdoulaye Cisse.

Referee Bernard Camille adjudged that to be a handball and awarded a spot-kick which was expertly put away by Ayew.

When Guinea were pushing for the equalizer in the closing stages of the match; they were caught on the break.

Baba Rahman sped up and after losing clumsy on the ball, he set up substitute Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu who scored by passing the ball into the net.

Ghana will face Uganda next away before hosting Togo at home to confirm their qualification to Morocco 2015.
