Cameroon Top Group D

by Brian Lee

Sat November 15, 18:49

A 1-0 win for Cameroon in their African Cup of Nations qualifier against DR Congo at the Stade Omnisport Ahmadou Ahidjo on Saturday will see them finish top of Group D and guaranteed a place in the tournament proper next year.

A 71st minute goal from Vincent Aboubakar was the difference between the sides and sees them uncatchable at the top of their qualifying group.

The win sees Cameroon on 13 points from five games, four points clear of second placed Cote d’Ivoire who beat Sierra Leone 5-1 on Friday night.

The loss for DR Congo leaves them in a precarious position and in need of a favour from Cameroon.

Cote d’Ivoire are second in the group with nine points following their 5-1 win on Friday night over Sierra Leone, leaving Dr Congo in third on six points.

In order for DR Congo to qualify now, they will need Cameroon to beat the Ivoirians this coming Wednesday in final Group D match while they will have to beat Sierra Leone.
