Botswana and Tunisia draw

by Staff Reporter

Fri November 14, 20:26

Botswana and Tunisia have played out to a 0-0 draw in their 2015 Africa Nations Cup Qualifier in Gaborone at the national stadium.

Botswana remain bottom of Group G with one point while Tunisia stay top with 11. Senegal and Egypt lock horns tomorrow.

It was pride at stake as the Zebras welcomed Tunisia under flood lights at the National stadium in Gaborone. The Zebras had nothing to lose going into the game as they had already not qualified for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

Peter Butler, the Zebras mentor had explained that his strategy was not to just play for the sake of it. The idea was to have a team of both youngsters and the tried and tested. He brought in Mogogi Gabonamong whose presence in midfield helped the Zebras contain the Tunisians.

Another veteran defender Boitumelo Mafoko was at his best marshalling the defence that was minus Leutlwetse Tshireletso and Oscar Ncenga who are out with injuries.

New boy in the team Segolame Boy was a marvel to watch as he made his presence in the team felt. His passes were mostly spot on and he was only let down by lack of experience and indecisiveness.

Mogakolodi Ngele who replaced Mogorosi was unlucky not to have got on the score sheet in the dying minutes as his well taken shot missed the target by an inch.

Butler on the other side was happy with the point as it showed that his charges were not only honouring the games but dying for the country.

Tunisian goalkeeper Mathlouthi Aymen had little to do in the game as the Botswana team rarely troubled him. Tunisia will be happy that towards the end they forced Botswana keeper Kabelo Dambe to make double saves in what could have been a big blow for the hosts.

Both Ragued Hocine and Maaloul Ali were a constant thorn in the Zebras defence; they showed signs of maturity and good skill throughout the game and were unlucky not to have got a goal.

“My boys did what they had to do and I am happy we qualified - the performance was not that important,” Tunisian coach George Leekens said immediately after the game.
