Zesco United beat Mbabane Swallows 1-0 in Ndola on Saturday to advance to the first round of the 2015 CAF Champions League.
The Zambian club advance 2-1 on aggregate from the preliminary round after a lifeless return leg match at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
The first half was pretty much flat although Swallows gave Zesco an early scare when Sabelo Ndinisa blasted his shot wide from close range after beating defender Emmanuel Mathias.
But it was Zesco who enjoyed the lion's share of chances with midfielder Justin Zulu and striker Winston Kalengo shooting wide in the 12th and 22nd minutes respectively.
Zulu then broke the deadlock in the 28th minute when his shot from outside box hit left post before crossing the line.
The goal was Zulu’s second in as many matches in the competition after scoring in the first leg a fortnight ago in Swaziland.
Meanwhile, the second half failed to spark to life but Zesco continued to dominate and in the 71st minute Jackson Mwanza almost made it 2-0 but saw his volley come off the post.
A minute later, Swallows goalkeeper Francis Nicho denied Mwanza in a one-on-one situation.
Mwanza again failed to make the best of another opportunty two minutes before the final whistle when Nicho saved the Zambia striker’s shot from close range.
Meanwhile, Zesco now await the result from Sunday’s match between AS Kaloum of Guinea and Sewe Sport of Cote d’Ivoire with the latter trailing 2-1 from the first leg at home in Abidjan.
