Espérance de Tunis booked their spot for the round of 16 of the 2015 CAF Champions League on Sunday with a 3-1 home win over Cosmos de Bafia.
The ‘Blood and Gold’ progress 4-1 on aggregate after recording a 1-0 victory in Douala in the first leg of their round of 32 encounter.
The Cameroonians took however the lead at the Radès Stadium with an own goal from Mohamed Ali Yaakoubi in the 27th minute to revive their continental hopes.
But Espérance’s striker Yannick N’Djeng equalised from the penalty spot five minutes later, after a foul on Hassène Harbaoui inside the box, before sending the ‘Blood and Gold’ into the break with a one-goal advantage with another successful attempt from the spot following a hand ball.
The locals continued their domination in the second half, adding to Cosmos’ misery in the 67th minute thanks to attacking midfielder Ghailene Chaalali.
And substitute Moez Abboud came close to adding a final nail into the visitors’ coffin, with a powerful strike cleared on the woodwork by the Cosmos keeper in added time.
The two-time African champions will face Al Merreikh of Sudan in the next round, with the first leg scheduled on April 17-19.
