ASO Chlef were held by Club Africain to a 1-1 draw at Stade Mohamed Boumezrag on Friday, in the first leg of their Confederation Cup round of 16 tie.
The visitors dominated the first half without, however, creating many chances, and the two sides were goalless at the break.
Club Africain had their efforts rewarded in the 64th minute, with Saber Khalifa putting the Tunisians ahead following good work from Tijani Belaid and Zouhaier Dhaouadi.
But Ivoirian striker Patrick Kwako levelled for the locals four minutes from time, on the Algerians’ first real opportunity of the game.
Coach Daniel Sanchez and Club Africain now hold a slight edge over their opponents with an away goal in their favour, ahead of their return encounter in Radès in a fortnight.
The overall winners will book their ticket for the second and final round of 16 of Africa’s second-tier clubs competition.
