Club Africain qualified for the play-offs of the Confederation Cup on Friday evening, after securing a 1-0 win over ASO Chlef in Radès in the return leg of their round of 16 tie.
The Tunisians are extending their journey in Africa’s second-tier clubs competition thanks to a 2-1 aggregate victory, following their 1-1 draw in Chlef in the first leg.
The locals had a first opportunity after 15 minutes of play when Saber Khalifa fired a shot just outside the post.
However, Club Africain managed to break the deadlock in the 43rd minute with Zouhaier Dhaouadi assisting attacking midfielder Imed Méniaoui for the opener.
The Algerians came close to equalising in the 74th minute, hitting the cross-bar, while Méniaoui had a chance to bag his second of the evening four minutes later.
Coach Daniel Sanchez’ men held onto their narrow advantage until the final whistle, to get one step closer to booking their spot in the tournament’s last eight.
