Al Ahly has advanced to the Confederation Cup group stage after having beaten Club Africain 5-4 in a penalty shootout following a 2-1 win by the Tunisians on Sunday night at the Olympic Stadium.
Coming to this match, Al-Ahly had an advantage since they had beaten Club Africain 2-1 in the first leg of this tie.
Zouheir Dhaouadi opened the scoring for Club Africain in the seventh minute of the match.
Kien Save also made a great save, denying Club Africain a second goal in the tight corner.
In the 21st minute, Al-Ahly came close into finding an equalizer but Ashour’s shot was stopped by an Africain player before going out.
In the second half, Club Africain came back in full force and it was Zuhair Alsaudi who pulled a great shot but couldn’t find the back of the net in the 56th minute.
Four minutes after that incident Emad Meteb found an equalizer for Al Ahly with a great goal, taking the score to 1-1.
In the 70th minute Africain pulled another shot but missed the target.
In the additional eight minutes, Nader Alghandri scored a winning goal for Club Africain, which saved his club and brought about the penalty shootout.
In the shootout Al Ahly made no mistake and won the match 5-4 on penalties.
