TP Mazembe secured a 1-0 victory over Smouha SC in Lubumbashi on Saturday, in matchday 4 of the CAF Champions League.
The win lifted the DR Congo giants three points clear at the top of Group A with two games remaining.
Côte d’Ivoire international Roger Assalé scored the lone goal of the encounter early in the second half.
The locals enjoyed most of the possession during the first 45 minutes, but without creating many chances against a well organised Egyptian side.
However, Mazembe saw their efforts rewarded after the break, with Ivoirian midfielder Assale breaking the deadlock on the receiving end of a corner kick in the 53rd minute.
And it took a very good Mahdy Soliman between the posts of Smouha to save his side from a heavier defeat.
Patrice Carteron’s men will travel to Al Hilal in a fortnight, with the ambition of sealing their place in the semi-finals of the prestigious tournament, while Smouha will be looking to bounce back in Morocco against Moghreb Tetouan.
