Al Hilal progressed to the semifinals of the 2015 CAF Champions League, after holding Smouha SC to a 1-1 draw in Alexandria on Saturday, in their final Group A encounter.
Already out of the race for a semifinals spot, the Egyptians, however, took the lead through Amr El Menoufy in the 21st minute.
One goal down at half-time and on the brink of elimination, Al Hilal managed to fight back with Nasr Eldin Omar levelling matters 17 minutes from time, to send the Sudanese giants through to the last four of Africa’s foremost clubs competition.
Hilal sealed a second-place finish in their Group A, two points adrift of two-time African champions TP Mazembe who enjoyed a 5-0 demolition of Moroccan outfit Moghreb Tetouan in Lubumbashi at the same time.
The Omdurman-based side will now battle USM Alger for a place in the final, while archrivals Al Merreikh will face TP Mazembe.
