USM Alger: 2 (2) – Beldjilali (15’), Seguer (22’)
MC El Eulma: 1 (1) – Korichi (39’)
USM Alger enjoyed a 2-1 victory over fellow Algerians MC El Eulma in Bologhine on Friday night, in their Group B clash of the CAF Champions League.
The win sees USMA consolidate their leadership in the group with a perfect record half-way through the mini league.
USM Alger started the encounter at Stade Omar Hamadi much the better of the two sides, and saw their efforts rewarded after 15 minutes of play with Youcef Belaili enjoying a great solo effort before sending Kaddour Beldjilali through for the match opener.
It took the Reds and Blacks seven more minutes to double their lead, with once again Belaili running the show for Mohamed Seguer to finish the job with a header at the far post.
El Eulma’s midfielder Nadir Korichi missed a great opportunity just before the half-an-hour mark, losing his one on one with international keeper Mohamed Lamine Zemmamouche, before finally pulling a goal back in the 39th minute to send the visitors with a one-goal deficit into the break.
USMA came close to restore a two-goal cushion as the second half resumed, with Mohamed Seguer heading a cross from Zinedine Ferhat right into the crossbar.
And ten minutes from time, it was Mohamed Meftah’s header that ended on the post to keep El Eulma’ hopes alive.
However, the locals managed to hold onto their narrow lead until the final whistle to extend their winning streak and put a foot into the semi-finals of the prestigious competition.
