USM Alger booked their spot for the semi-finals of the 2015 CAF Champions League on Friday, following their 1-0 away win at MC El Eulma in matchday 4 of the competition.
This fourth victory in as many matches leaves USMA eight points clear at the top of Group B, with a guaranteed spot in the last four of Africa’s foremost club tournament.
MC El Eulma started the better of the two sides, but the visitors came very close to breaking the deadlock just before the half-an-hour mark through Youcef Belaili.
Mohamed Meftah and Kaddour Beldjilali missed some more clear-cut chances for USMA towards the end of the first half, with the two Algerian rivals going goalless into the break.
However, the visitors saw their efforts finally rewarded in the 50th minute, when Beldjilali’s corner kick found Meftah for the opener.
Mohamed Seguer missed the opportunity to extend their lead fifteen minutes later, heading the ball into the crossbar from another set-piece.
But USMA remained in control until the final whistle to grab all three points, and leave Eulma’s hopes of a last four ticket hanging by a thread.
Still pointless with just two matches remaining, MCEE will be sent packing if the other Group B fixture, between Al Merreikh and ES Sétif in Khartoum on Sunday, finds a winner.
