Mali's Eagles held by Cranes

Uganda and Mali played to a 2-2 stalemate in the 2016 African Championship Nations (CHAN) Group D game at the Stade Umuganda in Gisenyi, Rwanda.

The match got off to a slow pace as the two teams looked to settle in the opening minutes. But the game picked up pace after the 10th minute.

Eagles midfielder Lassana Samake played a dangerous cross into the Uganda box and Bernard Muwanga cleared at the near-post

The deadlock was broken by Uganda defender Joseph Ochaya in the 11th minute. Ochaya headed home Farouk Miya's well-taken free-kick.

Eagles then pressed the Cranes for the equalising goal and their pressure finally paid off in the 24th minute.

Sedou Keita restores parity with a thunderous left-footed shot from the just inside the Uganda box.

In the 32nd minute Uganda midfielder Keziron Kizito unleashed a powerful shot from the edge of the box which was pushed away by Mali goalkeeper Djigui Diarra.

Mali winger Abdoulaye Traoré beat his marker on the left-hand side in the 38th minute, before playing a cross into the Uganda box and keeper Isma Watenga collected with ease.

Uganda were awarded a penalty after Erisa Sekisambu was brought down inside the box four minutes before the interval. Cranes captain Miya then converted from the spot-kick.

Injured captain Uganda Miya was replaced by Muzamiru Mutyaba at the beginning of the second-half.

Uganda were dealt another major blow in the 49th minute when goalkeeper Isma Watenga went down injured and he was replaced by Mathias Kigonya.

The Cranes struggled to find their feet after their two forced substitutions. On the hour-mark, Mamadou Coulibaly played a cross across the Uganda goal and Hamidou Sinayoko scored with a tab in at the far-post to make it 2-2.

A minute later, Uganda push forward looking to respond with a goal. Erisa Sekisambu forced Mali keeper Djigui Diarra into a top save.

With eight minutes left on the clock, the Malians beat the off-side trap and Sinayoko was brilliantly denied by Kigonya in a one-on-one situation

Ultimately, Group D clash between Uganda and Mali drew 2-2 and the two teams shared the spoils.
