Mauritius crashed and burned in their opening 2016 COSAFA Cup match after going down 3-0 to Lesotho in a Group B match at the Independence Stadium in Windhoek on Sunday.

It was the worst possible start for Mauritius who conceded a goal after only 34 seconds, the quickest goal in the tournament’s history.

Jane Thaba-Ntso was the man who had the honour of grabbing the opening goal with a fine header after meeting a well-placed cross, 1-0.

On the half hour mark Lesotho almost scored their second goal when a long range effort from Jeremeka Kamela struck the woodwork.

In the dying seconds of the first half Lesotho were gifted a chance to take double their lead when Louis Citorah brought down Khutlang inside the box and the referee pointed to the spot.

Jeremeka Kamela stepped up and made no mistake from the spot, 2-0.

Mauritius tried to find their way back into the game after the break as Lesotho took their foot off the pedal, but despite seeing a lot of the ball they struggled to break down a well-organised defence.

In the end, Lesotho rounded off an impressive performance with their third goal in the 90th minute courtesy of a strike from substitute Sera Motebang, 3-0.

Lesotho currently top Group B with three points while Mauritius are bottom with zero points. Angola and Malawi are in action later on Sunday as well.
