Morocco’s Kawkab Marrakech claimed a 2-1 win away to Libyan side Al Ahli Tripoli in Tunis’ Stade Chedli Zouiten on Tuesday night in a CAF Confederation Cup Group B clash.
The match in neutral Tunisia (Tripoli is still unfit to host major football matches due to continuing instability in Libya) saw Marrakech claim a 33rd minute lead through a penalty from Mohamed El Fakih.
Another penalty four minutes later, this time from the host team’s Mohamed Al Ghanodi, levelled the game at 1-1.
Yet Kawkab were able to take the victory thanks to Jeferson Luiz’s goal in the 64th minute, securing a 2-1 score line in favour of the Moroccan club.
They move clear at the top of Group B on six points, while A Ahli remain bottom with zero points. The group’s second match in this block of fixtures sees Etoile du Sahel face FUS Rabat in Sousse on Wednesday.
