A brace from Rainford Kalaba helped TP Mazembe secure a convincing 3-1 win over Young Africans in their final CAF Confederations Cup, Group A match at the Stade Frederic Kibassa Maliba on Tuesday.
To add insult to injury, the Young Africans finished the match with only ten men and see themselves placed firmly at the bottom of Group A with four points.
It was all TP Mazembe from the opening whistle, but their finishing in front of goal was poor.
Finally, in the 28th minute the home side made their pressure tell when Jonathan Bolingi found the back of the net to make it 1-0.
Two minutes later Young Africans were reduced to ten men following the sending off of Vincent Chikupe.
TP Mazembe could not add to the scoreline before the break despite seeing the majority of the possession.
Ten minutes into the second half Rainford Kalaba did manage to double TP Mazembe’s lead with a clinical finish, 2-0.
In the 65th minute he found his second of the game and made it 3-0 to the home side.
The Young Africans did try and find their way back into the game and even managed a consolation goal in the 75th minute thanks to a strike from Amissi Tambwe, 3-1, but it was too little too late.
The result sees TP Mazembe into the semifinals of the CAF Confederations Cup after topping Group A with 13 points following this win.
TP Mazembe (1) 3 (Bolingi 28’, Kalaba 55’ + 65’)
Young Africans (0) 1 (Tambwe 75’)
