Mamelodi Sundowns hammer five past Highlands Park

Mamelodi Sundowns made it four Absa Premiership wins in a row, beating a helpless Highlands Park side 5-0 at Loftus Stadium on Sunday to move within seven points of log leaders Bidvest Wits.

It was always going to be a difficult task for the Lions for the North, standing in the way of a Brazilians side picking up momentum - but Gordon Igesund would've banked on a better performance from his struggling side.

In the end, the Tembisa-based club slumped to yet another defeat as they remain winless since their opening day win over Baroka FC.

Despite the convincing scoreline, Sundowns remain in eighth spot as they continue to play catch-up in the league ahead of their trip to Japan early next month.

Sundowns opened the scoring as early as the seventh minute. Percy Tau capping of a superb solo run with a cool finish to send the hosts into absolute delirium.

The Brazilians made it 2-0 through Anthony Laffor soon after. The Liberia international left with an easy finish following Thapelo Morena's lung-busting run down the right flank.

Sundowns could've added five more before Sibusiso Vilakazi finally extended their lead in the 35th minute. The former Bidvest Wits skipper profiting from a precise ball by Tau.

Tau was again the provider as Themba Zwane made it 4-0 two minutes later. Highlands Park in deep trouble at the break.

The visitors woes continued after the interval as Rudi Isaacs turned Tau's cross past Tapuwa Kapini in the 53rd minute.

The defending league champions continued to launch wave-after-wave of attack on the Lions of the North goal, with the visitors in danger of being on the wrong end of the worst PSL defeat in history.

But, the Sundowns machine ran out of steam in the dying exchanges with Highlands showing some promise in the final 10 minutes. Denis Onyango, though, stood firm as he kept another clean-sheet.
