Chippa too good for Highlands Park

Sat December 17, 17:44

Chippa United were too good for Highlands Park as they returned to winning ways in the Absa Premiership with a 2-0 win over Highlands Park at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium in Mdantsane, on Saturday.

Katlego Mashego and Lerato Manzini finding the back of the net for the hosts as they condemned the Lions of the North to yet another defeat.

Chippa United made their intentions clear from the onset with head coach Dan Malesela naming a very attacking line-up as the Eastern Cape outfit looked to get back to winning ways.

In an attempt to disrupt the hosts, Highlands employed a very physical approach with the visitors conceding a catalogue of fouls in the opening half-hour.

After Thamsanqa Sangweni hit the post from a free-kick attempt in the fifth minute, the Chilli Boys made the Lions of the North pay in the 25th minute on the clash.

Following a needlessly conceded free-kick, Mashego duly stepped up with the Chippa forward seeing his deflected effort beat Tapuwa Kapini who was unable to keep he ball from rattling the back of the net.

Chippa deserved 1-0 leaders at the break with Highlands having failed to conjure a single shot on target.

Mothobi Mvala looked to change all that in the second stanza, but he was never going to beat Daniel Akpeyi from range; the Nigerian well positioned to make an easy save.

Chippa wrapped up proceedings in the 74th minute with Manzini providing the finishing touches to a free-flowing move. Paseka Mako doing all the hard work as he laid the ball on a silver platter for his teammate, who duly poked home with Kapini nowhere to be seen.

The hosts saw out the rest of the game with relative ease as they moved level on points with Mamelodi Sundowns.
