A late goal through Muhamed Musa was not enough for Al-Hilal Omdurman as they lost their CAF Champions League, Group A match 2-1 to Al Merreikh at Al-Merreikh Stadium in Omdurman on Friday.

The loss for Omdurman moves them to position three in the group with four points from five rounds of matches.

However, they will now hope to bounce back as they wrap up their group stage campaign at home on July 07.

The hosts were in high spirits ahead of this encounter as they came from a 2-1 win over Mozambican outfit Ferroviario Da Beira in their previous match.

Although the first round between the two Sudanese giants produced a 1-1 draw, Merreikh started better in this match.

Following their good start, they scored as early as the ninth minute when Rahman grabbed the lead for the hosts after converting an assist from Ahmed El Basha, 1-0.

The hosts continued to dominate the proceedings as they had five shots at goal, yet they only hit the target twice.

Diego Garzitto's troops knew the importance of this encounter as they were dangerous in their attack, but they went to the interval with only one goal to show for their efforts.

Just after their return from the tunnel, the Red Castle did not waste time as they doubled their lead through Rahman as he completed his brace three minutes into the second stanza, 2-0.

In an aim to get something out of the match, the visitors' coach Nabil Kouki introduced Mohamed Musa and the latter made an immediate impression.

He made it 2-1 after receiving a brilliant assist courtesy of Nigerian substitute and attacker Shobowale Azeez.

Despite numerous attempts from the visitors to find an equalising goal, it was not meant to be as Merreeikh stood firm at the back.

For Merreikh, the win pushes them to the second spot with seven points from five matches, but they will wait to see the result between leaders Etoile Sahel and Ferroviario on Saturday.

Merreilkh's final group game comes against Sahel in Sousse next week, July 07 as they wrap up their group matches.
