Guinea hammered Gabon 5-1 in the 2017 Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals opening match at the Stade Port-Gentil on Sunday evening.
The win sees the Junior National Elephants top Group A after collecting maximum points against the Junior Panthers, who are rooted at the bottom of the group without a point.
The Junior National Elephants broke the deadlock just eight minutes into the game and it was Fandje Toure, who scored to make it 1-0 to Guinea.
It was soon 2-0 to Guinea 15 minutes later and it was Elhadj Abourahamane Bah, who doubled the Junior National Elephants' lead.
The striker grabbed his brace on the half-hour mark with a beautiful finish to make it 3-0 for Guinea as the West African side continued their dominance.
Aguibou Camara also put his name on the scoresheet for Guinea towards the half-time break and they were leading 4-0 at the interval.
The tournament hosts, Gabon, had to come out an improved side in the second-half and score at least five goals without conceding in order to level matters.
However, Toure, the Junior National Elephants striker, extended his side's lead when he scored to make it 5-0 to Guinea a few minutes after the restart.
The Junior Panthers were able to pull one back through Richard Ndzengue, who hit the back of the net in the 70th minute to make it 5-1 for Gabon.
Nevertheless, the Junior National Elephants contained the hosts in the remaining minutes and Guinea emerged 5-1 winners on the day.
