Gambia have kept their slim hopes of 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualification alive with a 3-1 come-from-behind win over Benin at the Independence Stadium in Bakau on Saturday evening.

The Squirrels looked on course to take a step closer to booking their spot in Cameroon, with Huddersfield Town's Steve Mounie having given the visitors the lead at the break.

Gambia, though, showcased great grit and determination and turned the game on its head in eight thrilling second half minutes.

Lamin Jallow levelled matters for the Scorpions in the 70th minute before Modou Jobe hit home for the hosts to send the supporters into absolute delirium.

Benin pressed forward in search of a late equaliser, but Gambia's defence held firm and duly made sure of all three minutes as Abile Jallow fired home in stoppage time.

Victory moves Gambia up to five points, two behind Benin in Group D with Algeria to battle Togo in Lome on Sunday.

The Scorpions are away to Algeria in the final round of fixtures next March, while Benin are at home to Togo.
