Goalkeeper Abdoulaye Soulama saved a penalty which ensured Hearts of Oak played out a 0-0 draw at AS Police on Saturday to reach the next stage of the CAF Confederation.
The former winners progressed to the first round stage with a 1-0 aggregate win following their slim victory in Accra a fortnight ago.
Hearts were less fancied to advance after that unimpressive showing at the Accra Sports Stadium and their stagnant displays in the Ghana top-flight.
AS Police were forceful and dictated the pace but Hearts stood resolute to thwart all scoring efforts by the hosts.
In the closing stages of the match, Hearts could have won the match but substitute Kwame Kizito could not punish the home side.
Hearts will face either Unisport de Bafang of Cameroon or Senegalese side Olympique de Ngor.
