Burkina Faso kicked off their 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers Group D campaign with a 2-0 win over Comoros in Ouagadougou on Saturday.

Goals from Aristide Bancé and Jonathan Zongo in the last 30 minutes handed the Stallions a crucial win in their quest to book their place for Gabon 2017.

Following a goalless first half, Irtysh Pavlodar striker Aristide Bancé ultimately broke the deadlock at the hour mark to the relief of the home fans.

And UD Almeria midfielder Jonathan Zongo sealed the victory ten minutes from time, sending the Stallions top of Group D on equal footing with Uganda, who defeated Botswana in Kampala by the same scoreline earlier today.

National coach Gernot Rohr will be pleased with the result as he was expecting a tricky encounter, having to do without star duo of Alain Traoré and Jonathan Pitroipa due to injuries.

Burkina Faso will travel to Botswana in their next continental outing in September, while Comoros will be hosting the Cranes.
