Cape Verde secured a convincing 7-1 win over Sao Tome and Principe in their opening Group F match at Estádio Nacional de Cabo Verde in Praia on Saturday evening.

The Blue Sharks dominated throughout, netting four goals in the first-half and three in the second stanza to get their 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifying campaign off to the perfect start.

Djaniny opened the scoring on the night after 11 minutes before Nuno Rocha doubled the hosts lead six minutes later from the penalty spot.

Goals from Garry Rodrigues and Odair Fortes further enhanced Cape Verde's lead before the break.

Cape Verde made it 5-0 six minutes after the interval, Babanco making no mistake from 12 yards.

The visitors though would have something to smile about - Luis Leal finding the back of the net for the islanders in the 54th minute.

Cape Verde restored their five goal advantage in the 73rd minute, Djaniny completing his brace before Julio Tavares put the result beyond any reasonable doubt 15 minutes from time to seal a stunning win for Rui Águas troops.

The win moves Cape Verde top of their Group after Morocco saw off Libya 1-0 on Friday.
