TP Mazembe sealed their spot in the group stage of the CAF Champions League on Sunday, after recording a 2-1 win over Stade Malien in Lubumbashi in the return leg of their round of 16 tie.
The DR Congo giants advance 4-3 on aggregate, following their 2-2 draw in Bamako in the first leg.
Defender Jean Kasusula put the locals ahead in Kamalondo after 20 minutes of play, curling his free-kick past keeper Djigi Diarra into the back of the net.
Tanzania international Mbwana Samatta came close to giving Mazembe a two-goal cushion in the 56th minute, but that was ultimately Ousmane Diabaté who fired a powerful shot past Robert Kidiaba from range for the equaliser seven minutes later.
However, it took only three minutes to Patrice Carteron’s men to restore their lead, thanks to Ivoirian forward Roger Assalé with the help of the cross-bar.
And Mazembe hold onto their narrow lead until the final whistle to pursue their quest for a fifth continental crown.
