Uganda champions Vipers SC upset their Nigerian counterparts Enyimba 1-0 in a CAF Champions League preliminary round first leg match in Kampala on Friday.

Vipers, who were without star striker Farouk Miya who has moved to Belgian club Standard Liege, netted the match winner in the second half after a goalless first 45 minutes watched by an impressive crowd.

Erisa Ssekisambu was the hero when he shot past Enyimba goalkeeper Theophilus Afelokhai in the 72nd minute, just minutes after he wasted a sitter.

Enyimba bossed the first half with Joseph Osadiaye, Peter Onyekachi and Christian Pyagbara all coming close only to fire wide with the goalkeeper at their mercy.

The return leg match will be played in the Nigerian southern town of Port Harcourt on February 28 as Enyimba fortress, the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba, is under major renovation.

Vipers are making their continental debut after they pulled out of featuring in the 2010 Champions League, while Enyimba have won this competition twice, in 2003 and 2004.
