Sundowns fail to beat Wydad

Mamelodi Sundowns started their CAF Champions League, Group C campaign on a poor note note after playing to a 1-1 draw against Wydad Casablanca at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday night.

In the wake of the stalemate, the visitors now occupy the second spot with one point from a single match in the group.

The Brazilians had a bright start and were on the front foot from the onset as the netted as early as the third minute when a shot from Khama Billiat was blocked, but Sibusiso Vilakazi bundled the ball home off Gaddarine for an own goal.

Wydad fought hard for a response and were dealt a huge blow when Naim Aarab was replaced by Amine Attouchi in the 13th minute due to injury.

Still, in the 20th minute the visitors found an equaliser when Ismail El-Haddad fired home to make it 1-1.

In rhe 35th minute Brahim Nekkach ran behind the defence following a through ball to go one-on-one with Denis Onyango, but he blasted into the stands.

It was 1-1 at half time.

In the second stanza chances on goal were few and far between andthe consequently the match ended all-square.

The Brazilians now sit third in the group with one point after a single encounter in the group stages.
