Primeiro de Agosto held Etoile du Sahel 1-1 in a 2018 CAF Champions League Group D clash at the Olympic Stadium in Sousse on Saturday night.
The Tunisians were already guaranteed to progress, but this result ensures that they will be seeded as group winners for the quarterfinal draw, while the Angolan side will feel disappointed at having been denied a victory which would have secured a place in the last eight.
Agosto got off to a great start and claimed the lead in the sixth minute, as Masunguna Afonso got the better of Etoile goalkeeper Makram Bediri.
Etoile went on to have plenty of attempts on goal in the remainder of the first half, but their shooting was wayward and rarely troubled visiting goal-minder Adao Cabaca, leaving the game 1-0 in favour of the Angolan side at half time.
The Tunisians looked for a way back into the game in the second half, introducing the likes of Amine Chermiti and Wajdi Kechrida, but they continued to be frustrated by their Angolan visitors.
That was until the 87th minute, when Chermiti finally found the space to produce an equaliser and ensure Etoile were able to claim a share of the spoils and guarantee top spot regardless of their final group result.
Etoile will wrap up their Group D campaign with a match away to Zesco United, while Agosto know that a win at home to Mbabane Swallows will secure qualification. Both matches will be played on August 28.
