Difaa El Jadidi have been eliminated from the CAF Champions League after they could only draw 1-1 away to TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi on Tuesday afternoon.

The DR Congo giants were already guaranteed top spot in Group B regardless of the result, while the Moroccans drop to third in the group and miss out on advancing into the knockout stage.

The Ravens have been joined in the last eight by Algerian side ES Setif, who started the day in last place but won 2-1 away to compatriots MC Alger to claim second spot in the pool with eight points.

TP Mazembe were the more enterprising team through the first half, but they managed to test Difaa goalkeeper Mohamed El Yousfi just once.

The likes of Rainford Kalaba, Malango Ngita and Miche Mika put together some good combinations, but they were unable to penetrate a solid defence from the visitors.

The Moroccans played a reserved game initially, happy to establish themselves and dominate possession before trying to feed Tanzanian striker Simon Msuva.

The second half saw Difaa come out of their shell somewhat and substitute Adam Lachebab missed out on a great opportunity in the 74th minute.

Yet with the North Africans starting to commit more men forward in search of victory, they opened themselves up to the threat of the counter attack and were caught cold by Ben Malango Ngita, who put the Ravens 1-0 up in the 87th minute.

Difaa fought back to draw level in injury time through substitute Hussein Khokhouche and at least salvage a draw, but it wasn’t enough to earn a place in the quarterfinals.
