JS Saoura have been eliminated from the CAF Champions League after suffering a 3-0 defeat to Al Ahly at the Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria on Saturday night.
The result sees the Red Devils finish at the top of Group D, while their Algerian opponents have crashed out after being pushed down to third place by Simba SC, who won a concurrent game at home to AS Vita.
Ahly dominated the match from the early stages, putting the visitors on the back foot, yet they were unable to create any clear scoring chances within the opening quarter of the match.
That all changed on the half hour mark when Saoura defender Fateh Talah redirected an effort from Marwan Mohsen into his own net to give the Egyptian giants a 1-0 lead.
On the cusp of half time the Red Devils doubled their advantage, with Mohsen finding space in between defenders before sending an effort beyond the reach of goalkeeper Abderraouf Nateche.
The second half was a straight forward affair for Ahly, who were able to control the game and hold Saoura at arm’s length throughout.
The hosts even added a third goal late on, taking advantage of the Algerian side throwing numbers forward as Hussein El Shahat netted in the 81st minute to complete the scoring.
