Ajax Cape Town have confirmed that assistant coach Ian Taylor will act as interim coach of the club until such a time as a new coach is decided upon.

The Urban Warriors suddenly found themselves without a head coach on Thursday morning after it was announced that Muhsin Ertugral had parted ways with the club due to “personal reasons”.

Ertugral had just returned from compassionate leave following the passing of his foster father and in a letter addressed to the club the Turkish coach stated.

“I am writing this letter in deep sorrow to inform you, that I am stepping down from my duties as the Head Coach of Ajax Cape Town,” he said.

“My reasons are from personal point. In addition, my family situation unfortunately has also given me a big burden to deal with. It will be fair to give these duties to someone who can continue with the foundations that we have built.”

Ajax Cape Town director Ari Efstathiou has confirmed that Taylor, who oversaw both of Ajax’s off-season trainings this season, will act as interim coach for Monday’s league match against Orlando Pirates.

“Ian Taylor, our assistant Coach, will take over as interim Head Coach, until our Board makes a decision on the new appointment,” confirmed Efsathiou.
