Tanzania League Champions have this evening stopped eight time African champions Al Ahly of Egypt 1-0 in the first leg of the CAF Champions League tie played in the National Stadium in Dar es salaam.

Fresh from winning the Africa Super Cup, the Egyptians failed to put their act together as the home side dominated proceedings.

Skipper Nadir Haroub ‘Cannavaro’ scored the important goal in the 82rd minute. The home side with Ugandan stars Emmanuel Okwi, Hamis Kizza and play maker Mrisho Ngasa run rings around the giant side, but failed to find early goals.

Al Ahly who have been under lots of pressure from their fans back home because of poor results in the domestic League stood firm and defended in numbers. But the home side made sure they gave their fans a perfect weekend gift ahead of the return leg in Cairo next weekend.

In Nairobi, one of the goals by Uganda Cranes striker Daniel Sserunkuma was not enough to save Gor mahia from suffering a 3-2 defeat to Tunisian giants Esperance at the Nyayo Stadium.

Sserunkuma’s scored for Gor Mahia in the 14th minute before Ahmed Akaichi equalized.  Yannick Ndjeng made 2-1 for Esperance in the 63rd minute before Haron Shakava made it 2-2. It was Haithen Jouwi’s 89th minute goal that made the difference.

Ugandan players Israel Emuge, Godfrey Walusimbi and geoffrey Kizito also featured in the match for Gor Mahia.
