King Faisal suffered their second demotion in the four Ghana Premier League seasons after Wednesday’s 1-1 home draw with Berekum Chelsea on the final day of competition.
The Kumasi-based side, who made a return to Ghana to-flight last season after just a making a quick return following their relegation in the 2010/11 season, needed to win to stay up.
Defeat could have also sent Berekum Chelsea, champions in 2011, into the second-tier league.
Faisal made a perfect start and scored the opener through captain Tetteh Nortey on three minutes from a rebound.
Chelsea keeper Abubakar Iddrisu fisted a corner-kick into play and Nortey was at the right place to connect home with a drive.
Faisal never gave up and tried to double the lead but Chelsea were resolute and keep the score line at 1-0 going into the break.
But Chelsea managed to snatch the much-needed equalizer through Yaw Alexander whose feeble goal attempt slipped through the hands of the goalkeeper.
With Aduana Stars beating champions Asante Kotoko 2-0 at home and tallying 40, Faisal’s 38 points were not enough.
