Mozambique reached the group stage of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with a 4-3 aggregate win over Tanzania on Saturday
The Mambas emerged as 2-1 winners at the Estadio do Zimpeto in Maputo courtesy of strikes from Josemar and Elias Pelembe Domingues, while Mbwana Samatta scored the only goal for the visitors.
The first leg had ended in a 2-2 draw in Dar es Salaam with Khamis Mcha scoring a brace for the Taifa Stars, while the Mambas were able to respond through Domingues and Isac Carvalho to earn a positive result away from home.
Josemar opened the scoring during added time in the first half to give his side a 1-0 advantage going into the break.
Samatta scored the equaliser in the 77th minute to revive Tanzania’s hopes of advancing to the next phase.
However, the Taifa Stars suffered another setback in the 83rd minute when Domingues scored the winner to fire his side into the group stage.
Mozambique will now join Group F where they will compete against Zambia, Cape Verde and Niger for a spot in next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
