Gabon needed a late goal from Levy Madinda to secure a 1-1 draw against a 10-man Lesotho outfit in a Group C 2015 African Cup of Nations Qualifier at the Setsotso Stadium in the country's capital of Maseru on Wednesday evening.

It was the visitors who looked the more menacing in the opening exchanges, but Malick Evouna failed to convert a glorious chance to open the scoring just after the half-hour mark.

The Wydad Casablanca forward was played through on goal, but he could only manage to direct his resulting chip effort off target.

The hosts were dealt a major blow in the 36th minute of the encounter as goalkeeper Mohau Koenane was shown a straight red for a professional foul. The Lesotho shot stopper had no argument as he clearly handled the ball outside his area.

Despite playing with a one-man disadvantage, it was Likuena who opened the scoring seven minutes after the hour mark.

The hosts were pegged back in the final embers of the encounter and looked like they would hold on to all three points, but fell just short as the Panthers hit the back of the net with three minutes remaining.

Burkina Faso beat Angola 3-0 in the other Group C encounter in Luanda, subsequently becoming the first side to beat the Mamba's on home soil since 1999.

Gabon next host the group leaders, Burkina Faso, while Lesotho welcome Angola next month.
