In-form Victor Wanyama will skipper Kenya’s Harambee Stars in an International friendly against Morocco in Marrakech on Monday night.
Wanyama who has been in good form for English Premeir League side, Southampton is one of the professional players who made the trip for Kenya’s second game under new Coach Bobby Williamson.
"This is a big match for us in which we hope to learn a lot. We have had good training and hope to make an impact in the match,” said Wanyama. The Coach surprisingly left out French based striker and former skipper Dennis Oliech who had trained with the team.
The coach opted to place the attacking duties on Sofapaka’s Enock Agwanda and AFC Leopards’ Noah Wafula in a bold move that shows his willingness to take risks in rebuilding the team. “We cannot rely on one person all the time. It is high time we started to nurture local talent if we are to improve our football status. We need to create a new generation of players and the time is now,” said the former Uganda Cranes coach.
Kenya who lost 1-0 away to Egypt last month will play without Jesse Were and El Merriekh striker Allan Wanga.
Abderrazak Hamdallah who boasts 20 goals in the Chinese Super League this season and scored a hat-trick last week as Morocco eased to a 4-0 victory over Central African Republic will lead the home side.
Badou Zaki will be eager for his men to keep up the winning habit as they continue their preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations that they will host.
