Ethiopia’s Fikru Teferra Lemessa has taken the 2014/2015 Hero India Super League by storm with two goals in his first three games for Atletico De Kolkata.
The former Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United striker scored in the team’s 3-0 win over Mumbai City FC and the 2-0 victory over NorthEast United FC. “I am enjoying it here and the fans are great,” said the 28-year old Lemessa.
Lemessa who captained Ethiopia during the 2012 regional Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup said he is determined to perform well in the Indian League and help his team win the title. Former Spain International Luis Garcia also features for Lemessa’s team.
The Hero Indian Super League which kicked off on October 12 has attracted eight teams; Atlético de Kolkata, Chennaiyin FC, Delhi Dynamos FC, FC Goa, FC Pune City, Kerala Blasters FC, Mumbai City FC and NorthEast United FC.
Kandwani Mtonga and Isaac Chansa (Zambia), Ivan Bolada Palacios (Equatoria Guinea), Ofentse Nato (Botswana) and Nigeria’s Penn Orji are some of the other African players featuring in the Hero India Super League.
Former English Premier League stars Mikel Silvestre, Nicholas Anelka and goalkeeper David James are among the other players plying their trade in India where Clubs are reportedly paying good sums of money.
