Ethiopia’s Head Coach, Jeronimo Mariano Barreto has said his team has what it takes to shock hosts Algeria over the weekend in a 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier.
“Losing 3-0 to Uganda in a build-up has been an eye opener. But it was a very welcome friendly and we know we have a good team that can get another away win like the one we picked in Mali,” Barreto told AfricanFootball.com in an exclusive interview on Sunday.
The Coach said although he missed four key players for the friendly against Uganda, his team is determined to get a result away in Algeria to turn round their chance of qualification. Ethiopia are bottom of Group B with three points after their 3-2 away win to Mali last month. They lost 2-1 to Algeria, 3-2 to Malawi and 2-0 to Mali.
Barreto said they will have to polish the team ahead of the game away to Algeria. “Playing away in Algeria will be a very hard match, but we shall be up to the task. Algeria have already qualified, but we need to go all out determined and get points in Algeria,” added the coach.
“We know what to expect in Algeria and they are a good team that also played well during the World Cup in Brazil. But we shall be up to the task,” added Barreto. The team will keep their fingers crossed hoping that defender Hussein Saladin Banfecho who picked an injury against Uganda on Sunday is fit to travel.
