Shakes Mashaba has named midfielder Dean Furman as the new Bafana Bafana captain ahead of their 2015 African Cup of Nations qualifier against Sudan at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday.
Mashaba had been tight lipped on who he would name the new captain of the South African national team following the untimely passing of Senzo Meyiwa, but announced on Friday that the Doncaster Rovers midfielder would lead the side for their remaining qualifiers against Sudan and Nigeria.
Furman has formed a formidable partnership with Andile Jali in midfield and many tipped the former Orlando Pirates man to get the nod while Anele Ngcongca was also a frontrunner for the position having captained his club side in Belgium.
Mashaba though decided to hand the armband to Furman who formally captained English outfit Oldham Athletic.
