Zambia wrapped up their 2015 Africa Cup qualifiers on a high after beating Cape Verde 1-0 at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on Wednesday night.
The home win at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium was sweet revenge for Zambia over Cape Verde who were the only side to have beaten Honour Janza’s side in the qualifiers.
Cape Verde beat Zambia 2-1 on match day two away in Praia as the Blue Sharks made their intentions known in Group F on their way to qualifying with two games in hand.
Meanwhile, Zambia enjoyed the lion's share of chances especially in the first half but were again poor in front of goal.
Striker Emmanuel Mayuka had Zambia's first shot on goal in the 5th minute but Cape Verde goalkeeper Kevin Sousa saved his shot with ease.
Kalaba then teased the Blue Sharks goalkeeper Kevin Sousa in the 12th minute but his shot was rising.
Zambia's winning goal came in the 78th minute through striker Reynold Kampamba who sent Sousa the other way to after making a darting run into the box.
This was Kampamba’s first goal in the qualifiers.
Meanwhile, the defeat did little to affect Cape Verde status at the top of Group F where they finished the qualifiers on 12 points, one more than Zambia.
Both sides have qualified to the 2015 Africa Cup to be held in Equatorial Guinea from January 17 to February 8.
Wednesday win also saw Janza win three games on the trot from eight matches in charge with one loss since he was appointed coach in August 2015.
