Players of both Kano Pillars and Enyimba have said they will hope the new Nigeria league season begins before they are involved in next year’s CAF Champions League.

Pillars and Enyimba will fly Nigeria’s flag in next year’s Champions League after they finished as champions and runners-up, respectively.

Isaac Loute of Pillars and Femi Thomas from Enyimba have told AfricanFootball.com that it would be better if the Nigeria league began before they are involved in the Champions League because then they will be in a good fighting shape.

"We fought hard to get the Champions League slot and we are in it to prove that we are still the best in Nigeria. I am praying and urging the league organisers to see that the league starts before Champions League so that it can help the teams who are representing Nigeria on the continent next year,." Thomas told AfricanFootball.com

Similarly, Pillars left back Isaac Loute said it will put the players in match fitness.

"Lack of league action affected the teams who represented Nigeria in the African cups last season. It would therefore be great if the LMC could do everything to see that we start playing the league before the continental matches start,” advised the Benin Republic international defender.

“It will give the players match fitness. League fitness is different from friendly games. It will do the team and the country a world of good to start the league in good time."
