Al Ahly’s coach Juan Carlos Garrido praised his team for never giving up following their 1-0 victory over Séwé Sport in the CAF Confederation Cup’s final on Saturday.

Defeated 2-1 by the Ivoirians in Abidjan in the first leg, the Red Devils scooped the trophy on the away-goal rule thanks to a header from Emad Meteb in the dying seconds of extra-time in Cairo.

“Generally, we were under immense pressure during the first half, but we managed to improve after the break,” Garrido said in the post-match press conference.

“The match in fact was full of critical moments, and Séwé could have killed off the game anytime. But we still believed in our chances of winning the title and thus kept fighting for it.

“And as I earlier said, it's time to enjoy the victory, and from tomorrow we will begin preparing for the upcoming challenges.

“Ahly are a big club and our philosophy is to win more.”

The Cairo giants became the first Egyptian side to claim Africa’s second-tier clubs competitions.
